Many people suffer from insomnia or sleeplessness or pass the day without sufficient sleep. 4. Chamomile herb is taken as a tea helps in promoting sleep. It improves sleep patterns and does not have any addictive effect.

5. St. John's Wort is generally used to treat anxiety and depressions, but this also acts on the serotonin and melatonin hormones and improves sleep. To get the best result it should be taken in the early morning for a good nights sleep to follow.

6. Passionflower is another herb that helps in sleeping.

Essential oils of some herbs if massaged properly or taken along with bath can soothe the nerves aiding in good sleep. But these sleep-inducing herbs must be taken in due consultation with the medical experts as they can interfere with other prescribed drugs leading to serious side effects.
