Low Blood Pressure, Hypotension Home Remedies and Natural Treatment

Hypotension or low blood pressure is pressure that is lower than normal blood pressure. Normal blood pressure for the human body is 120/80 mmHg. If your blood pressure is 90/60 mmHg or lower you may have low blood pressure.

Hypotension happens due to low blood flow through arteries and veins that can lead to less oxygen being passed to vital organs. This is due to weakness, flabby and over dilated blood vessels. In case of less oxygen being passed to brain, heart, eye and kidney, they can get damage and in some serious situations it can permanently damaged vital organs.

Some of the reasons that can lead to hypotension are pregnancy, diabetes, the hormonal problems, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and low blood sugar. Some over-the-counter medications can also create this problem. The overdose of high blood pressure drugs, abnormal heart beats or rhythms, disrupting functioning of heart, heat stroke and liver disease may also cause hypotension.

Some other reasons that can cause sudden drops in blood pressure are loss of blood, low body temperature, high body temperature, sepsis, a severe blood infection, heart muscle disease causing heart failure, severe dehydration, due to reaction from medication and the severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).

The major symptoms of low blood pressure are fainting, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, vertigo, transient blurring of vision, over exertion, mental disturbances, extreme confusion and breathlessness. But with the normalization of the blood pressure, these symptoms will subside slowly.

Drink plenty of water as dehydration minimizes the blood volume which causes the drop in pressure. Drink one glass of water per hour to keep your body hydrated. Salt is also good for hypotension patient. You can increase your salt intake, but this increase in salt may vary from person to person. Take a walk after you take your meals. This helps in bringing the blood pressure level to normal.

Soak ten small raisins in water overnight. Chew each raisin slowly before swallowing it. Continue doing this for a month. This is very helpful in normalizing low blood pressure. Another useful home remedy is almonds. Soak five almonds in water overnight. Grind them to make a smooth paste and mix it in glass of milk. Boil the milk and drink it warm.

Groundnuts have most of the required nutrients and protein. Roasted groundnuts are more nourishing. Boil dates in sweetened milk. Take this milk warm along with the boiled dates, 2 or 3 times. Sugarcane juice is also a good energy booster and recommended for low blood pressure.

Wheatgrass is believed to rejuvenate and revitalize the energy levels. Extract the juice and consume it immediately while still fresh for best result. Take 2 to 4 grams of guggul twice a day along with hot milk, preferably in the winter months.
